Why M25 is not a part of the BAR

Everything we have, every great achievement, has come from the independent work of some independent mind. Every horror and destruction came from attempts to force men into a herd of brainless, soulless robots — without personal rights, without personal ambition, without will, hope, or dignity.

“ – Howard Roark – Fountainhead”

why M25 Movers is not part of the BAR

Okay, that was a bit dramatic, but the concept is the same- A man’s right to exist for his own sake.

Throughout time, some people took their first steps down new roads, armed with nothing but their vision. The great creators — the thinkers, the artists, the scientists, the inventors — stood alone against the people of their time. Every new thought was opposed; every new invention was denounced. But the men of unborrowed vision went ahead. They fought, they suffered, and they paid. But they won.

We all dream about how we want to be, work, treat others and be thought of; for some, it means walking a different path.

The BAR’s purpose is to guide, unite and standardise the service, but what happens if a group of people believe they can use their knowledge and experience to become better than the standard? That standard to them means mediocrity, and unity means keeping your voice down and walking the path others set up.

For you who read this, this all sounds confusing and even full of itself, but stop for a moment and think;

  • Why is moving home one of the worst experiences in a UK adult’s life?
  • Why does working for a moving company hardly sound like a career choice?
  • What changed in the industry in the past 100 years?

Good questions. Here are two more:

  • How many movers do you know?
  • When I say the word ‘movers, ’ what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

At M25, we don’t subscribe to this approach. We can change all of it and more.

  • We can make the experience a bearable one.
  • We are already providing our people a future where they can live comfortably and be proud of who they work for and their work.
  • M25’s website is the industry’s most advanced site. There is nothing like it.

We did all that and more without reading a single line of the BAR commitment to their subscribers and clients, but we know that the “industry standard” of claims and complaints is 12%.

Ours is 2.35% – nuff said.

We don’t need anyone to guide us, take membership fees from us, and act like an all-knowing boss regarding what we see as our life’s work. Moving is what we have done, for some of us, for as long as we can remember (For 8 of us, M25 is the first job), and many of us hope this is the last job we will ever have. We are happy here.

So here we go; I hope I’m starting to make sense. An association, any association, by default, seeks power. It wants to bind all companies together in standard action and common goals. It claims that companies can only be good under its supervision — that we must think as they instruct us, act as they guide and serve as they tell us to.

Ya right.

Did you know?

  • M25 designed and built its own CRM system
  • M25 use Zoho apps to manage the company
  • M25 was the first to use shrinkwrap in London
  • M25 is the first to offer wardrobe boxes as part of our service
  • M25 is the first to have an online reservation system
  • M25 is the first (and possibly the only) to have a client portal
  • M25 was the first to have a name that was not the owner’s first/last name + Movers/Removal
  • M25 was the first in 156 years to move furniture out of the Arts Club
  • M25 was the first to name its vans 🙂
  • To introduce OPT for added safety on delivery
  • To go green by removing all paperwork and going digital
  • One of the first to introduce plastic crates
  • M25 is the first to include ‘no evictions’ in its T&C

We all dream about how we want to be, work, treat others and be thought of; for some, it means walking a different path.

It takes work. That is the short version. We have all been there, whether in school, at university, or as friends or family. When you believe that you got it, you know the answers, and everyone else is not wrong, you just want to do it differently because you believe in yourself and that you can do better and then look back saying – I did it.

Challenge

01

Resistance to Change: Confronting scepticism or resistance from those comfortable with the status quo or fearing the unknown.

02

Lack of Support: Losing the support network or resources available within the established group makes it harder to navigate difficulties.

03

Isolation: Feeling isolated, both professionally and personally, as a result of moving away from the herd.

04

Increased Scrutiny: Facing closer examination and criticism from others who may doubt the viability of the chosen path.

05

Uncertainty and Stress: Managing the uncertainty and stress that come with pioneering uncharted territory without a clear roadmap.

06

Proving Viability: The burden of proving the success and sustainability of the new path to stakeholders, including customers, investors, and employees.

No Retreat, No Surrender

92 %

of all moving companies in London have less than four operating vans

28 %

of potential clients who can’t move with us due to availability will write a bad review.

We have four times that, so we don’t know; maybe they should join an association or something 😉

Achieving the M25 standards takes a team 7 months of training, almost like birth. We will get to a point where every client is included.

Conclusion

In the journey towards innovation and excellence, M25 Movers has chosen a path less traveled. This journey is not just about reaching a destination but about how we pave the way for an industry transformation. Our refusal to join the BAR isn’t a statement against unity but a declaration of our commitment to higher standards, personal growth, and customer satisfaction. At M25, profit is not the end goal but a natural result of our dedication to innovation, quality service, and a strong team ethos. We believe in building a future where moving is not a task but a seamless experience underpinned by trust, efficiency, and, yes, strong muscles. Our road is made of principles, where every step forward is a step towards redefining what it means to move.
